Due to an knee injury one of our attendees on the Short Walk Expedition to Afghanistan's Wakhan Corridor has had to pull out. He has very graciously offered his place ($10,000, already paid up) for a member of this mailing list. It will be the journey of a lifetime.
You will join a team of six people. The Short Walk Trekking Scholarship covers all local transport, accommodation, food, trekking permits and support staff for the three-week expedition. It excludes international flights into Dushanbe (our starting point), insurance, alcohol and visas. We can advise on obtaining visas for Tajikistan & Afghanistan in a few days.
To be eligible you'll need to be signed up to the Studio D mailing list, be fit enough to undertake two weeks high altitude trekking, and be comfortable with being in relatively uncomfortable situations. We are traveling to a very remote, and relatively low risk part of Afghanistan.
You'll need a four season sleeping bag and decent hiking boots. The rest of the equipment is supplied by Studio D.
