Hosted by Jan Chipchase, founder of Studio D Radiodurans and the author of The Field Study Handbook, these three-day retreats will reveal how to run international studies to identify new growth opportunities, understand the motivations of international users and drive impact in your organisation.

We recognise that many of our best learning experiences and memories, have come from being with a small group with a shared purpose, over a number of days, in a relaxed environment.

We value people with diverse work experience, cultural perspective and from different life stages. There are plenty of unpressured opportunities to get to know other attendees as the retreat unfolds.

Working sessions are run in the morning, while the afternoons are more open and unstructured.

All three retreats are located parts of the world where we've run projects. They are all fascinating in their own way, from exploring ancient temples in Japan, the relaxed southern mediterranean ambience of Lebanon (or head over to the Syrian border, if that's your thing) through to edge of grid travel in Myanmar.

The advise of a previous attendee:

“add extra days to the trip, but leave your plans open—you’ll definitely meet people you'll want to explore the country with."

We recommend extending your trip by 3 to 7 days. Our local crew will be on-hand with advice on where to go, and can support with light logistics when on-site.

Most attendees don’t have a background in research. About half describe themselves as being "in transition", that is they are thinking ahead to the skills they want to gain and how they might apply them.

As with previous retreats, we aim for an even gender split, and people from different life stages. Couples are discouraged in order to keep a balanced dynamic, however we do not dictate post-retreat groupings.

Some of you may wish to claim the work portion of the retreat. For that reason we can issue a separate working receipt that covers the equivalent of an intensive two-day Field Research Masterclass ("Field Research 2-day Masterclass" for $1,999).
